ISO has voted in OpenDocument to its standards.

I also read that OpenXML will attempt to gain support form ISO.

I don't think ISO will give them support. Two standards that do the same thing is pointless. Besides, OpenDocument is technically the better standard.

Good point. That being said, maybe Microsoft will make something to open OpenDocument formats and save them as OpenXML.
I know they are creating the patches for Office 2000 and up to save to the XML files.

It's not like Micosoft to support old products...

It is when they can create a monolopy.
By releasing patches for Office, they can do another vendor lockin to yet another Office format.

This is why ISO most likely won't support this.

Office will get OpenDoc support by plugins. Not good for Microsoft!

It could swing in the other direction. Microsoft could make a patch to Office that supports OpenDocument and say they their suite is open. They can just leave the format that defaults to OpenXML.

that still wouldn't change the fact that M$ formats can be losslessly converted to OD.

Microsoft can't convert its own format to display in its own products. How can OpenDoc stack up to that!?

ISO support for OpenXML looks nil.

ISO won't want competing standards. The predictions in the article are optimistic. 50% adoption of ODF? Man, that's crazy.
