Castle Wolfenstein Screenshots

Poster: Warlock
Posted on November 17, 2001 at 2:02:00 AM
Here's a few screenshots of the new Castle Wolfenstein from over at the nVidia site. It's looking to be a really sharp looking game so far. I just hope that the gameplay is as good as the graphics, but knowing the boys at id, they will put out a winner as they always do. I can't wait to feed my GF3 this little piece of software! New VIA Mini-ITX design board

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on November 7, 2001 at 3:32:00 PM
I saw on VIAHardware that VIA has a new design board. The Mini-ITX is 50% smaller than the FlexATX standard and it integrates a VIA C3 CPU on the motherboard. I don't like an all in one designs for myself, but I wouldn't mind setting up a internet box in the kitchen with it. You can see the full press release here.

No More Free Lunches At Windrivers.com

Poster: Warlock
Posted on November 6, 2001 at 10:39:00 PM
Well it looks like windrivers.com is no longer a free place anymore to track down those hard to find drivers. You'll have to pay now to the tune of 14.95/6 months and 29.95 for a year. These prices are the special introductory prices. After that they go up to a whopping 29.95 and 49.95 respectively! Ouch! At least the home page is still free. I guess I'll be bookmarking my sites a lot more these days.

Motherboard Monitor Update

Poster: Warlock
Posted on November 5, 2001 at 2:01:00 PM
Looks like a new update for MBM. It has a few adjustment s to clear up some issues for some users that have been having problems. An excerpt-

To solve the 2 issues (slowdown of ME and exception error) issues with 5.1 which both where in the CPU usage code I have released 5.1.0.1. It only changes 4 items, so if your okay with 5.1 then save yourself the download Smile

I have made this a quiet release as the few changes to not really justify a big release (mailing list, news pages etc etc.)

changes from 5.1 to 5.1.0.1

- Added on/off switch for the CPU usage, about 20 peoplein total had some troubles with this part of the code.By default this switch is turned off, so if you wantCPU usage turn it on

- Added switch to ignore scan for sensor chips at $2Eor $4E, so far only 1 user needs this

- Right click on dashboard will add/remove sidebar

- % sign is removed from log if you selected to nothave any symbols in the log file

You can download the new version here- MBM Download

The Via C3 Parody Video

Poster: Warlock
Posted on November 4, 2001 at 1:47:00 PM
You might have heard all about the How Modern CPU's Cope With a Heat Emergency article at THG about how to cook yourself a cpu for breakfast and end up with an Athlon omlette. Of course AMD strikes back with another article posted at THG claiming the new palomino cores with a properly modified motherboard do in fact 'cope'. AMD Strikes Back Well chipset maker Via apparently has been sitting back watching the fireworks and gotten quite a laugh from the whole ordeal. Via as you may or may not have known has entered the cpu market now after buying up Cyrix and is currently offering the C3 cpu. At current die sizes as low as .13 microns and emitting a measly 11 watts of heat from a 800Mhz cpu, they tout it as a feature to take on chipzilla and chimpzilla. And to prove it, they have put out a little 7mb video. Roll that beautiful bean footage! C3 parody at Viahardware
