CD?DVD ROM replacement fpr hp Pavillion 9700

I have to replace the cd rom onmy old HP pavillion 9700. I've been having major issues lately where the laptop won't start all the LED lights up on the front face then shuts off and never the screen shows anything just black with the backlite !! Sometimes for hours I let the laptop on and it does it's things for hours and just out of the blue the hing kicks in but very very slow. I taught at first it could of been the HD but I just got a brand new HD and it's for sure the cd rom. The thing won't spins and when it does it's not for long. 3rd guess would be the screen but it still works it just take hours sometimes.

So now I am stuck with a blank brand new HD I have the install disck but no ways of installing the OS so I need to remove that cd rom for the pavillion Anybody here found a step by step explanation on how to remove it?

Most laptops have a release latch for the optical drive since it is a swappable bay (usually).

It's a PDF, page 59 is the one to start. It seems you just need to remove a screw and pull the drive out.

WOW I just looked for replacement on eBay and they are between $60 and $80 any other brand/model I could use??? I rarely use that laptop and rarely use the CD rom on it!!!

Borrow a USB CD drive from someone or install Windows from a USB stick.

I actually have a USB drive but it won't kick in on boot up!!!!

you might need to get to the bios to set bootup order to USB

Can you even get in to the BIOS? Are you actually sure the CD drive is busted?

I'm assuming it's the cd drive Maybe RAM??

I changed the boot sequence with my usb drive but it won't load. I'm running out of option.

Regarding the drive from the HP laptop there's one screw to be removed I did remove it and pulled on the drive but I don't think that's it!!!

You have to make a specialized USB boot. There are a number of guides. What OS are you trying to use?

You should test it with Linux to see if it is a hardware problem or not.

Can you give me a step by step of what is actually happening? Does the computer boot?

When I power it on the blue LEDs on the front lights up then sometimes I hear a click then it resets itself. It can goes on and on for hours. Eventually it would boot up but now there's a new HD in it (I taught it was the HD that was the culprit) so now there's a new drive but can't install any OS on it!!!!

The reason why I'm suspecting the cd drive is it never opens on it's own I have to use a pin to open the tray
